Window

It is a projected for submission to an open call by Re.thinking Eastern Europe, artists collective

I call this project "Window" as one window has been a place of reflection and entertainment in the Polish flat, I grew up and where my mother currently lives.

Looking through the window can be a physical act but also a strong symbol of waiting.

When I left Poland for London in 2003, to study English language and experience life abroad, I was not thinking of the long-term effect that this will have on my family, especially my mother. Her life became the “longing” for my return. When I visit, she waits by the window in the kitchen. The lights are on; the saturation of green plants can be spotted from far.

The window is a place when she does her 1000- word crossword, hand-writes her shopping list, drinks coffee, and do the administrative tasks which she inherited after my father died.

We never fully got used to of me moving abroad so the waiting feels casual rather than special. It is almost like I am coming back from school, and she is there waiting to make me dinner.

The window is on the third floor and often hit by heavy rain drops which paint pictures of trees. That is in fact the actual landscape blurred by downpour.
